Journal 9 Classroom 2.0

Presentations

This tool deals with multi-media presentations on the Web. They can be part of a website, used as a collaborative tool by students or as a presentation such as powerpoint. I am interested in this technology as a learning and communication tool where there are many applications.
One of the recent posts discussed a new product called Jing. This software allows the user to take whatever image is on their computer and share it with anyone by using a link pasted onto the clipboard. It even allows images to be shared as video.
Another teacher was asking about applications for teaching math. She wanted to create slideshows and movies as expressions of the new material they were learning in class. One of the responses was to use a concept mapping tool called Cmap. Students can not only collaborate with each other, but parents can view what the students are learning.
Someone else was using Voicethread for English language learners with good success. It allows students to speak over images. I think this has some great possibilities. Projects can be created where contemporaries speak over pictures of some time or event to tell their personal history.
One of the last threads I looked at discussed Google’s new presentation tool. This application along with Sliderocket would compete with Powerpoint. Most seemed eager to having an alternative to Powerpoint.

The information you covered is interesting. It's amazing the amount of technology we are going to be able to use in the future, and the benefits our students will receive.

I found that I was really unfamiliar with all the new technologies you spoke of. The two I liked the most were the Voice-thread where you speak over images (a great tool for ELL learners), and Slide rocket-a new application that competes with Powerpoint. I'd like to try them and see how I could apply them to my teaching.

Hmm, this might be helpful for us when we're doing our movie project... I think anything to get our tech-savvy students interested in learning is great. Kids love movies, video games, and computers, and if we can harness these technologies to make them relevant to learning, the more power to you.

Jing sounds so cool, to be able to share a picture or video just from copying to the clipboard. that pretty much removes e-mail from sending the files. That is great.

Great, just when I am getting used to appling the skills we have been learning in class they will most likely be outdated by the time I have them mastered. Seriously, it is amazing to think about the number of ways we will be able to accomplish the same tasks technologically.

I too am fascinated with the new technology and how much easier it is becoming to use. Like the tool you mentioned Jing. Tools like these are great for students to learn to use movies for educational perposes. This is when learning becomes fun!

I like learning about new and exciting ways for students to be able to express the assignments that they are working on. It was also interesting to hear how it was used to incorporate EL students. These types of presentations are beneficial and interesting. Something to look forward to when I am teaching.

I would definately use this technology once I became familiar with it. Having that voice over technology over pictures would be so much fun when presenting material to students. I also like the idea of sending pictures by a link rather than an attachment.

The vast number of options available is astonishing. I can see why educators are reluctant to adopt new technology - just when you think you've got it figured out, there is something new to explore. Collaborative presentations are definitely the wave of the future; it's nice that there are applications out there that are accessible to educators and students alike.

I am interested to see how the sharing of video on the clipboard works... it seems like Jing has a lot to offer. I selected the voicethread tools for this assignment, and like you, found it had many exciting possibilities for all learners, including elementary students.

Thanks for sharing!
